I mean, its gotta be boating accident right? Who knows bitcoin enough to run a mining pool and thinks the fbi is somehow able to do something about getting coins back. Maybe im just not understanding the full context.

You have as much context as everyone else. Nobody really knows if it’s a boating accident or not. A question I have about such things is “why say anything at all about it publicly?”
The whole thing was weird and it still is but I keep doing what I always do, if I can’t verify, I don’t trust.
