Watched the trailer and it was a little 'darker' than I was looking for last night...decided to rewatch an episode or two of The Expanse instead. 😬 But, _noted_ as a future watch...ty 🤙

That's fair. It's kind of a heavy dark movie, not always what you'd want.
it's a great movie. not really as dark as kinda psychedelic and existential. i've watched it several times. Kiefer Sutherland is brilliant as the assistant scientist guy, with his, uh, stuttery, uh, speech pattern.
and the ending is beautiful.
Yeah, maybe it's the psychedelic aspect of it that makes it hard to recommend generally. There's something a little uncomfortable about it, for lack of a better word
i don't think it's really any darker than Fight Club or Gattaca, it's more pretty in its noir elements than Gattaca though otherwise a bit of a similar theme
I do like Gattaca... It's hard for me to describe exactly what it is about it. Only other movie that pops to mind is Brazil. Maybe it's that they're both a bit older and less slick too. Kinda wanna watch it again now, but first I'll have to check out this indie British movie I heard of on here called Dead Man's Shoes
oh, yeah, on teh subject of dystopia Children of Men is another great movie. Michael Caine is brilliant in his role in the movie. it's a little disturbing in that it makes reference to a pandemic that caused mass sterility and the premise of the story is that children stop being born and the population is rapidly aging, and descending into authoritarian dystopia. it also has a happy ending tho.
i still haven't sat down and watched Brazil. that's directed by the Twelve Monkeys guy, the former Python, iirc. always good and always dark his movies, quite funny really, being that Terry Gilliam was a comedian specialising in absurdism prior to becoming a director
Didn't realize it was 12 monkeys guy. That makes sense, cuz 12 monkeys is another one that makes me somehow uneasy despite liking it. Maybe I'm just a nervous person 😅
dystopia is a difficult subject. people who really enjoy this kind of story tend to have a pretty bleak view of the state of the world. and a lot of the movies even when they have a happy ending are still quite bleak.
