When I was kid, someone yelled back at me: “Get off the lines, Little Man” & it stuck.

( even as a girl, I understood irony )

Is it possible that one doesn’t have a call sign until it bestowed on them?

Is this still a cultural thing? Ima speaking from late 80’s early 90’s timeframe. Even then it may have been regional etc.
