Rundown on some of the updates provided by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) today on the mid-air collision at Reagan Washington National Airport on January 29.

NTSB investigators have released two updates regarding the VH-60 “Gold Top” helicopter that crashed into American Eagle Flight 5342.

It is “likely” that the three crew members on board the helicopter were wearing night vision goggles for the entire flight. The crew was conducting an annual training flight, focused on a continuity of govt mission. VH-60s are meant for high ranking DoD/USG personnel.

The crew may not have heard radio traffic from the Reagan National Airport ATC tower directing it to pass behind Flight 5342. That traffic can be heard on publicly released recorded audio from the tower.
