Do you use #Amethyst?
Yes 👀
Security Filters -> Disable "Filter spam from strangers"
It is known to mute npubs in that way and cause "I wonder why this npub was muted" moments
I turned it off. I have had experiences like that before actually. Thanks.
Yeah, you need to disable the filter or follow it to see it. This bot has been a classic spammer for years now.

I think detecting "spam" is a nontrivial task solely because each individual wants to read different content. Also, context matters - this bot is more like a notification and not a senseless copypasta - I doubt any automation tooling can distinguish them reliably.
Yep, it is complicated. But it's clear to me that the better we are at removing them, the better we do with new users. New users tend to immediately bounce out of Nostr when they see people spamming each other. And they don't come back easily after seeing some stuff.
Sure, I completely understand your viewpoint and respect it. But I think UX can be improved even further - but I am not sure how.
It might be coalescence of all muted events due to npubs being considered "spammers" or some explanation/mention at the UI about kind of safe-mode/extra spam protection enabled. I mean #Amethyst will be much better if user will be able to notice some hidden settings being used even if they aren't willing to change defaults and expect things to behave differently
It was noisy before, much improved
