i don't know why, but #[0] does this weird thing where it'll tell you there are X new messages in your feed but when you click it, no new messages appear. is it notifying me of bot spam that i blocked or...?

Could be. I can't pretend to understand how all this works but Iris's spam filtering blocks a lot of stuff from the global feed. I'm using Amethyst right now and there's a lot of garbage on the TL. Can't tell if it's spam because most of it is Chinese.

Lots of upgrades so things may glitch at times.
