I feel ya but not voting is strictly worse than voting for the least worst candidate. I think we’d have better politicians if more people voted.

It’s just a slippery slope. When you do vote you feel invested, you feel you should be more involved, “my politician” pill your friends and family, get all worked up over shit with internet strangers
Meanwhile it’s a borderline conspiracy by the powers that be + money in politics to keep the status quo and fuck us just a little harder than before
You’re not wrong tho 🤝
That’s a solid point I hadn’t thought about.
I was thinking about it purely from a decision theory point of view, where if you opt out from making a choice, than others will make it for you, so you’re taking away some of your power.
🤝
So easy to get sucked into the outrage cycle 😔
Ugh for real - I used to spend too much time on Reddit and I eventually noticed how my emotions / thinking around politics was being influenced.
It’s one of the reasons I’m loving nostr so far - feels like it’s mostly real people on here and less hidden agendas
I feel more powerful voting with my feet and my dollars than at the ballot
It probably is more powerful, agree with you 100%
Just curious what do you mean about voting with your feet?
I’m never voting against someone again. If someone deserves my vote, they’ll get it. If not, I’m not participating.
Well said ser
Just voting for the least evil of two evils is gravely unethical IMO……gotta stand for something
But how does not voting = standing? Its more like you choosing not to vote means your telling everyone else to just forget about you.
Opting out sends just as much a message IMO
If someone asked me to give my child 1 of 2 poisons, I would not choose the least bad poison, I would take my child and walk away.
In your example you left out that someone is giving your child a poison either way
This is not really the case though, most of the poison of politics is engaging in it, poisons your mind. Go about your business as if the government doesn’t exist, take it as far as you want. (Ect. Move out of county, evade taxes, support only true entrepreneurs, ect.)
Yeah thats real.
There is a real cost to engaging in it.
Appreciate you hashing it out with me 🤝
I feel like the only alternative to not voting and to stand for something is for you to run for office yourself
Nope. Not when the system is broken, taking part of a broken system does not fix it, not paying attention to the broken system and focusing energy on solutions does help. (Which is what most bitcoiners do).
If voting took more than an hour or two I would buy this argument, but given it’s such a low effort action one can take I still disagree.
But how will the system ever change if you keep saying, fuck it I guess I’ll just vote for the least bad……then their is never a hope that the poison dealers go out of business.
100% agree - you can’t “just vote and do nothing else”
