It furthers identification by forcing people to digital ID. The age verification tech does not support identification, there is no way with the app to verify age with identifying, so the platforms would have to use it differently.

You can clearly see it was designed by privacy nerds, which is very sad to see that they would go for it, but here we are.

For me the main problem is the digital id itself, for many reasons, for example there are people who have no ID and can't get one. They will be left out.

And the second problem is you can say goodbye to non corporate computing. It needs Google approved Android (both os and device) or Apple device.
