Why is it better 100x? Why not just run solo and let the thing playout

Ocean is noncustodial. The problem with solo mining is you never get paid. It will never achieve mass adoption.

The other thing that makes ocean 100x better is they pay you to build your own blocks.

Largely sepends on your stack, no? Odds are better if you're running a farm in solo mode? Obviously, you can't plan your business this way – that's the essence of the question. Why should it be purely business driven with stricter debt repayment obligations? Isn't the current hashrate an overshot because of this?

Yeah only the top 20ish miners get a coinbase output. If that's not you, use bolt12 payouts. It's as close as you can get to noncustodial.

Don't understand the rest of your note.

Agree with the bolt12, I just setup a separate cln node for that

Yeah but running a lightning node is a technical barrier most people will never clear. It also creates big liquidity problems if you are running a large operation.

I'm curious how Ocean payouts work in this scenario. For example, if you are running the 21st largest account and can't get a coinbase output in every block do you get a coinbase every few blocks? This is like an interesting middle ground between custodial and non-custodial.

I'm actually protoyping a solution to this problem using CTV. It would enable noncustodial payouts every block for every miner down to the UTXO dust limit.

What do you think about this alternative to Ocean, and it's also with Lightning payouts:

Looks cool. Love to see new entrants testing new models. Unfortunately they are tightly integrated with a shitcoin wallet.
