When consolidating his power Diocletian met resistance to his rule in the important port city of Alexandria in Egypt. After the resistance was squashed an angry Diocletian ordered the citizens of the city be slaughtered until the blood reached his horses knees. It was at this point his horse choose to kneel in the aftermath of the battle and thus get blood on it's knees. Taking this as a sign from the Gods Diocletian decided to spare the city it's grizzly fate. The city erected a statueel to honor their hoofed savior.
