I know the pain. Definitely don't let them loose in the yard and try to shoot them though. thats a bad time likely to happen.
There are tried and true methods of dispatching your rabbits, and nothing wrong with using a 22 in my opinion either. point blank is very reliable, but i wont ever shoot one i raised if its loose.
the wild off chance i miss or it moves from my point of aim is just not worth the stress on the animal or myself feeling bad about an injured animal i care for.
rabbits are by far the hardest for me to harvest, however i will say they are so much easier to process than chickens and its much cleaner of a process.. but maybe thats just me being bad at processing chickens lolol
