Story time.

I was trying to buy some tickets to a concert I’ll be taking my daughters to via Ticketmaster, and paying with a debit card, so of course I had to put in all my personal information, give them an email and verify it, give them a phone number and verify it, then give them all the debit card information (which they could use to pull more funds from my account any time they want, and I just have to “trust me, bro” that they won’t) and finally place my ticket order, only to have it fail because my credit union suspected it was fraud…

So I had to confirm with my credit union that no, it’s not fraud. I am actually trying to buy concert tickets, and by the time that was completed, the process had timed out on Ticketmaster, so I had to start all over again… This time, the transaction just wouldn’t process. Plenty of funds in the account. Double checked the information I had put in and it was all correct. Tried again. Wouldn’t go through. Transaction with Ticketmaster timed out again…

Finally got it to work on the third attempt by using my wife’s PayPal account…

Compare that to when I purchased upgraded hardware for my Umbrel last week. Entered shipping info. Selected to pay with Bitcoin. Selected Lightning and was presented with an invoice to pay. Scanned invoice with nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm Go. Done.

But lightning is too difficult...

To be fair, self-custodial Lightning can be difficult to set up and maintain. But an individual transaction for a reasonable size to be sent via Lightning? Dead simple.
