Yes, I have a soft spot for the early 70s works from the likes of Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin, Joe Zawinul etc and like you mentioned they were part of a few of the bands that Miles rustled up at that time. Jazz meets rock, meets funk (but not quite) with the ethereal sound of Miles guiding it along. I think it was in the early 1990s, when the Japanese were releasing their "Japanese pressing" cds which were a nice LP style sleeve on the cd with their high quality recording tech, that I hoovered up every of that Electric period of his works. Still, they can't beat vinyl!

I'm glad to have most of it on vinyl (reissues, obviously) but the CD sets of the compete sessions are amazing. You get the hear the full jams that were later collaged to create the albums.
I didn't get into Weather Report quite as much (I should really listen to them more) but I love Mahavishnu Orchestra and Herbie's 70s stuff is sensational.
