I don't live in Cyprus but have a friend there. He loves it but that's the extent of my knowledge. I've been, its in the Mediterranean, which is simply gorgeous. That said, there is a British RAF base in Cyprus which, especially with middle eastern friction, makes it a target. Also the 1974 invaded north still splits the island. Turkey still wants the rest, so I'm told.
Personally I prefer Crete.
