yeah, i have a whole litany i can recite about how it has been fucked up... this nonsense with nip-44 especially... as a moderately experienced cryptographer i can assure you they didn't substantially improve anything over AES-AEAD that nip-04 gives you, but instead, has led to a huge problem with interop between clients
