Went into a small shop this morning to pickup something for the wifey, making small talk with the owner (wanting to push lightning payments). She tells me her cc machine is down again, I think perfect opportunity. I first ask, do you pay fees for accepting Cashapp and Venmo because that’s how I typically pay. She says no, they don’t know I’m a business because I don’t do a lot through them. Then I ask, is your credit card fees very high? She says, I left it like the previous owner had it and I pass the fee to the customer. Then she goes on to tell me all the other retailers that pass the fee on. I was so disheartened, I couldn’t bring it up and just left. If retail customers have accepted the practice of paying the retailer cc processing fee, why do they want to change? I get the ā€œBe Your Own Bankā€ mentality but the sheeple of the world don’t get that concept. Looking for advice because I want to spread the word about lightning in my community because I believe in it..ā˜¹ļøāš”ļøāš”ļø

We are planning to do the same with local stores here in Italy! I think we may create a ā€œthreadā€ on satellite to talk about this, I believe is satellite.earth or something

a lot of isers are searching for easier and cheaper means to transact money and control their finances

Also for that I was thinking about building an app to enable easy FIAT cash to Lightning transaction, I am studying CivKit. It seems it can help achieving this.

I am imagining a software where there are peers who provide liquidity on lightning network, on mainnet and on CEX as well, an application which runs on Umbrella for example.. which facilitates orders on order books in order to purchase back those sats sent on lightning sold for fiat cash

do it. it should be easy to convert fiat to sats without having difficulty

The problem is that one shall also buy this bitcoins, unless you simply sell from your own which is not exactly the reason why people buy bitcoin in first place. So I imagine there is the need for some liquidity on an exchange where main et bitcoin can be purchased then there is the need to manage a node in order to have actual property and not going custodial!

true. one would need first to hold the Bitcoin to exchange and then back again. liquidity would drive the app to successfully operate

Actually if anyone is a dev and interested in doing this, contact me! Let’s get some shit done!!

Don’t use sheeple. Thanks.

?

Well it’s a stupid word for starters. Then - sheeple I guess are normally people that follow a certain (wrong) pattern by the masses and this obviously does not apply to retailers.

They may not have the technical expertise to accept lightning payment.

Oh and just because someone doesn’t accept bitcoin doesn’t make them sheeple either.

It’s just derogatory and we should be inclusive and not exclusive.

Reverse the argument. Let the merchant offer a ā€œdiscountā€ for paying with lightningāš”ļø

IMO it’s an uphill battle.

CCs are ubiquitous because they encapsulate both the debt and savings markets. Debit/Credit cards work the same way whether you are buying with debt or deposits. Bitcoin can only compete directly with one of those. Bitcoin is for those who save and buy with what they have.

CCs are also popular, because however illusionary, people believe they have some form of fraud protection.
