But the problem of expensive electricity is also the cause of laws in the European Union to avoid too much competition between member countries, so they tend to align to the same prices, and only raise them. Plus In France, around 1/3 of the bill is made up of taxes.
Energy is taxed hard all over europe. In some cases what you buy is the taxes together with some energy you actually wanted. Europeans are really stupid, because they work to give ~70% of what they earn to the state (income tax around 50%, VAT + consumption taxes over 20%) so that they don't have to "pay for stuff" and get it "for free" 🤷🏻.
