Last week they reported that the live-action “Bambi” remake was finally dead at Disney after losing the original director. Is James Wan’s live action Gargoyles series still happening? It is still in development. The last update that we’ve got about the reboot was at WonderCon 2025 with Gary Dauberman promising to keep “that darkness to it”.“Adapting Gargoyles for live-action will be challenging, we are talking to some great people. We are still keeping that darkness to it. I think Disney would kill me. I am such a fan of the show and there is so much good in it. I will say that if you are a fan of the show, you will be very happy with how I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel with that one.” – Gary DaubermanAnnounced in October 2023, ”Gargoyles“ is being executive produced and written by James Wan and Gary Dauberman trought Disney Television Studios, Blumhouse Television and Atomic Monster. The “Gargoyles” reboot is part of Disney’s attempts of re-introducing “The Disney Afternoon” shows and characters to a new generation of fans starting all the way back with “DuckTales” in 2017 with a reboot on Disney Channel and Disney XD, “Chip N’ Dale: Rescue Rangers” in 2022 as a live-action/animation hybrid film on Disney+ and a upcoming “Darkwing Duck” sequel series/reboot from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg with Point Grey Pictures also for Disney+.Plans for a “TaleSpin” reboot from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg trought Point Grey Pictures where reported to be in development in April 2023 but where reported to be halted in February 2025 with Rogen and Goldberg hoping to get the project back on track. This will leave “Adventures of The Gummi Bears” and ”Goof Troop“ as the last major "The Disney Afternoon” IPs left to be rebooted however it seems that Disney is testing the viewership waters on a potential new “Goof Troop” project based in how the Disney Kids Youtube channel has been uploading full episodes of the original series for free.
