One of the amusing things going through all the orphan wells list is just seeing the names used for both companies and wells. The ones am looking at right now were drilled by Killer Rabbit Fields LLC. Great name!

Orphan wells? Please elaborate. Curious.

posted a few thing in the past on this. Orphaned wells are abandoned oil wells. They're not great for the environment and states try to get them abandoned correctly. There are lists. I am looking through a list of over 8000 from Texas and diving into the geology a little to see if I can find ones that could potentially be economic and be put back on production. Been going a couple months now. Rather large project! Trying to see if one can start an oil company with very little capital just for a good challenge.

Interesting. Thank you, for explaining. Are those on public kr private property mainly, would you say?

May I ask, an additional question?

What methods are you using to look into the geology exploring if there's more oil in the ground at these certain locations of exciting wells?

Well I downloaded the full list of wells from the Texas Railroad Commission and I go through one by one checking their history on a web portal I have access to. That shows the production history and the well depth etc. I then cross reference back to the RRC if there's one that looks potentially not depleted and check and verify the history of the well. I download logs of data when available and look at the geological properties of the wells if available to see if there are any zones I feel have potential to contain hydrocarbons that they have not accessed. I am ranking everything and then once am done with the full 8000, I will take the higher potential ones, scan through to start doing a deeper dive. The deeper dive involves downloading as much local well information and building up geological models to look for structural geology features that may give a better indication of potential. For that, I use another piece of software that I was the designer for which allows me to build up models of the subsurface and create maps etc.
