Damn. Only got the 4th axis Haas indexing heads here 🥴
Do you know anyone that does? I'm trying to figure out what collision detection software people are running. A buddy of mine is looking at a UMC750
I personally don't. I'll ask the owners when I get a minute, but not sure I'll get much more out of them. They had some 5th axis machines at their past shop before they opened their business. But, that was 17 years ago. Shits probably changed since then.
Realizing how useless my contribution to this has been 😂😮💨
It's not a big deal. I just want my friend to know WTF he's getting into. He's very, very savvy, but going straight into 5th axis is a lot. It would be his only mill in his shop. (only CNC mill...)
Honestly above my skill level and probably pay grade unfortunately. We make a lot of serious high tolerance and fancy parts with what we got but, that's a whole other layer on top of what we do here.
Big money to spend too, just to potentially crash it 😂
We deal a lot with Methods Machine Tools, maybe a call to someone at a place like that would help lay out some better options and current info.
Thanks. I'll pass that along.
I saw your post and immediately thought: "a person who asks questions like that is the kind of person I want to follow!"
But it turns out, I already did. 🤣
I wish I could say that I or someone I knew ran a machine like that, but I'm not in touch with the only person who might qualify. He reads and writes gcode by hand. An absolute monster, and I think he's probably at least in his 60s, maybe older.
LOL! Sometimes, things are already worked out!
Definitely sounds like a good guy to know.
If my friend was looking for anything but a 5 axis machine, I'd totally trust him to know what's what. He seems to have taken my advice to research collision detection software, and it's not as badly priced as I remember, so, now he's just looking for a machine he wants to buy. Worst case, he needs to make a service call the first time he tries to run a part. 😅
