Government is a monopoly, and thereby its political agenda is one-sided. That heterogenous approach is problematic in itself especially combined with forced taxpayer funding. Monopolized bias is likely rigid and system-preservational.
Private companies will often have their own bias and/or agenda, but due to competition we are likely to see several vectors of scientific inquiry in the free market, at least if the market is free'ish and isn't rigged by a legislative branch of government.
