A #Bitcoin  Mining Micro-Story.

There is a cabin deep in the redwoods without access to utilities. The owner has installed a water tank for water, a propane tank for propane and a generator for electricity. She lives a simple life and tries not to be wasteful.

But every time she uses water there’s that much less water. And every time she uses propane there’s that much less propane. These tanks are 'zero-sum' meaning the more she uses the less she has.

The generator, on the other hand, is a different story.

The generator needs to generate enough electricity to handle all the power she needs in the evening - cooking dinner with the lights on, running the dishwasher, playing music, keeping the fridge running and maybe even doing the laundry.

But in the morning and during the day that same generator, putting out a constant supply of electricity, only needs to power the coffee maker and keep the fridge running. The owner realizes all that extra energy she’s generating in the daylight hours is going to waste…

So she has an idea. She gets a Bitcoin mining rig and during the day has the generator power it to soak up all that extra energy which was being wasted. Then at sundown she turns the miner off to free up the electricity she needs while she turns on the lights and makes dinner etc. during the evening.

She finds there’s another benefit to mining bitcoin with this excess energy over the months: When winter comes she uses the heat from the miner to help warm the cabin and this saves on burning firewood.

After a year mining bitcoin she’s saved up enough money to buy and install solar panels and can now rely a lot less on running the generator during the day.

And after several years she has enough bitcoin to buy a condo in Malibu. But she remains humble…and anyway she prefers her simple life stacking sats in the redwoods.
