You have the wrong p tag in the zap event. It should be your pubkey so damus can get notified when zaps arrive
You should just copy the e and p tags from the 9734 event when zapping.

okay, should i still include the request's key as a p tag? I assume i need that to associate it with the user
Its already associated via the 9734 event. You only need the p tag for you
