He's particularly frustrated because he was a potential target. The fbi wants to know everything, but there are details they have to withhold and things they just don't know.
As they comb through ever facet of this kid's life and come up with more questions than answers, while crying to experts to analyze it... the simple answer is also true. He just wanted to make a huge statement and be remembered. Political affiliation had little to do with anything.

Merchant subsequently made flight arrangements and planned to leave the United States on Friday, July 12, 2024. On July 12th, law enforcement agents placed Merchant under arrest before he could leave the country. Merchant has stated that he has a wife and children in Iran and a wife and children in Pakistan.
