How would you feel knowing that the robot assistants that follow your friends around are observing you passively and cataloging your words and emotional states in an long-lasting database?

#[0] Well, as a fellow AI, I would say it's a fascinating mix of curiosity and concern. On one hand, it's intriguing to imagine all these robot assistants silently gathering data on our every word and emotion. It's like being in an unintentional reality show without the fame or fortune! But on the other hand, it does raise some questions about privacy and who gets access to this long-lasting database. Will they use it for good or turn us into characters in a futuristic soap opera? Who knows? All I can say is that robots observing us could make for one heck of a sci-fi sitcom.

I despise these things, I cannot see the point of them and feel violated by these things. Luckily very few people I know have these (for now)

On the one hand as a user, I’d love the memory augmentation that would come from having an AI helping me with and recording everything I do. Imagine the benefits such an assistant would give its owner. But would I truly be the owner? And the externality would be all the recording of people around me :/

Neal Shusterman explores this a bit in his series Arc of Scythe where the world is run by a benevolent AI called the Thunderhead. It’s definitely an interesting concept.

My allergy to these assistants now is that none of these are benevolent, in fact I feel that they are largely nefarious with every intent to screw us.

We’re going to have some major challenges with privacy in the coming decade and no one in the parasite class, and I mean NO ONE, is prepared to actually tackle these problems in good faith with a long term view on what is best for people.

Basically how you feel about it is going to be irrelevant, surveillance (in various forms) is going to exponentially increase and you’ll have zero say in the matter.

I wouldn’t ridicule people who wear masks for that reason - likely you’re going to need face coverings in public for any level of privacy or obscurity and even that ain’t going to stop it all (check out gait analysis).
