Bitcoin’s energy use ties its value to the physical world. It’s an energy standard like gold used to be.
Without proof of work, there is no value.
This is why shitcoins have no value and why they have all gone to proof of stake. They simply can’t compete with #bitcoin’s actual value.
If you don’t get this, or see what makes Bitcoin different, that’s ok. It will keep doing its thing with or without you. In the meantime, I’ll be buying your share, so thank you.

I agree that it is a shame that sound money seems to require energy expenditure. Whether in the form of gold mining operations, or in the form of #Bitcoin mining, or in the form of military expenditure/energy use to secure faith in fiat currency like the USD.
The problem is that humans are greedy. None of us can be trusted to manage a form of money without trying to benefit from the responsibility ourselves.
That means that money will come at a cost. I prefer a form of money that is based on computer code and mathematics. The energy expenditure is worth it to me. The energy expenditure for military/banking sector/etc that is required for fiat currencies to work is not worth it to me because it hasn’t solved anything. You still have the energy expenditure plus you have to deal with greedy humans still, and btw, throw in a side of death and misery thanks to the need for military operations to subdue those who dare question a particular currency’s dominance.
Bitcoin uses a lot of energy. No one is denying that. Those who claim that energy is not required for sound money though, just don’t get the fact that humans are always gonna human, and greed will ultimately destroy every form of money that isn’t secured with energy expenditure.
But again, you do you. I hope your alternative works out. It would be great if it did, but I’m not holding my breath.
