This story of the internet in Cuba keeps getting more interesting. Advertisements are now coming out for the messaging app ToDus, claiming to be the cheapest option… but what is ToDus? No surprise there, a messaging app developed by a strategic alliance of ETECSA (the only twlwcommunications company in Cuba), the University of Informatics Sciences, and the Havana Science and Technology Park, all institutions controlled by the Cuban government, with their servers in Cuba under the full supervision of the PCC… Why is it cheaper than the rest? In Cuba, there are also intranet packages, obviously much cheaper than internet packages(100 Cuban pesos for 2.4 GB of intranet and 600 mb of intranet for 25 Cuban pesos), so this app, being a Cuban service, is more affordable, but at what cost? More control, more censorship, less privacy, less freedom, less access to information from outside. They are building a utopia with everything they have caused in the country
