The first broccoli is harvested πŸ’š

And many more are coming… πŸ‘€

I’ve planted more than 20 plants and I hope I can freeze some of it for winter! πŸ₯¦πŸ’šβœ¨

I remember me at the beginning of the year, totally overwhelmed with how to garden, so many things got clear by just trying. I already know, next year I am more aware how to plan it and hopefully I have more time to care for it. #Homesteading is a dream I am working on. πŸ’š #gardening

πŸ˜… Lol! Ewww, broccoli! The one vegetable I hate. Glad everything worked out well, though! 😁

Haha really πŸ€“πŸ€“πŸ₯¦ more for me πŸ˜›

Oh nice.

Beautiful looking broccoli. With 20 plants you'll feed a lot of people! You may have already done this but if you stagger your planting times you'll get an extended harvest and not a big glut of produce at once

Thank you! I’d love to share it with friends, family and colleagues πŸ’š and of course for freezing for winter.

I was thinking about stagging the planting time, do you have experience with it? Can you give me tips? :))

It depends on how many plants you plan on putting in and how much room you have but in the broccoli case you could allocate enough room for all the plants, buy a punnet (usually 6-8 plants) and plant them, leaving room for the rest later. Then a month later (more or less, not an exact science) plant another punnet out next to the first batch and then again a month after that. If you plant your first punnet at the very start of the season and the weather is kind you should have a longer season and broccoli ready for harvest in a staggered fashion.

Hope that helps. Can be done with other veg as well.

Thank you so much!

The time between the plantings was very helpful πŸ€—

I would leave some space for the second planting. :) and I would probably grow them out of seeds by myself πŸ€— looking forward for next seasons preparing!

Yum. I like raw broccoli especially the stalk

I need to use more of the stalk! πŸ₯¦

Raw and cooked, both veery tasty! πŸ’šπŸ˜‹

Well done :)

Did you use any feeder or fertiliser/compost etc to grow these?

This one got a small layer of compost when planting them! πŸ₯¦πŸ€—

About that planning, my exp is - every year is different. There are patterns, yes, but it is all very dependent on how the weather evolves and also how well the soil is fertilized. You can do things the same way and get quite different outcomes every year. Little tragedies and happy accidents, often both at the same time 🀷🏻.

The learning never stops.

That might be true! I will experience that over the next years :p

Preparing the seeds at the right time for the first time was most difficult for me! I was a little late for some.

Growing + learning and it’s always fascinating πŸ’š thank you πŸ€—

How do you fertilize? I just threw some compost when planting and did not fertilize after that

Compost is gold... erm bitcoi... eh... compost is great. Each plant needs a bit different fertilizers, but compost is almost universal. Some plants don't like too much of it (like parsley) but not many. You can plant zuccini or tomatos directly into pure compost and it works great.

Some use commercial fertilizers to add since the blooming starts. But you can add a bit more compost instead... like every two weeks? Bird, cow, horse poop is the most typical, just make sure your plant likes it. You can buy it in a concentrated form too.

I'm an amateur, so watch some videos and read article or two about growing what you grow.

It also depends on how fertile is your soil, that differs a lot.

Also it sometimes takes about one season to insects/fungi etc to adapt to what you're growing, so the first season can be great and the the next one maybe less so.

Thank you for sharing some of your knowledge with me! Luckily there is much information out there in the web! 🌱 getting some random information here is great too! And we learn, compost is bitcoin! :D I really had to laugh πŸ˜‚

thanks for the ⚑️ zaps!

nostr:npub1995y964wmxl94crx3ksfley24szjr390skdd237ex9z7ttp5c9lqld8vtf that is some Bea broccoli! Great job! The best way to learn is by just doing. If you have any questions though feel free to ask.
