Instead of saving them as a contact I created automation using Tasker to save any incoming calls to a local sqlite DB. For all unveiled calls I set flag to block in DB and make a note. This way calls from blocked are not coming through, and I have a backup in case I change phone.

I used to get 4 spam calls daily and I would just hang up. Didn’t do anything.
I found that switching phone to airplane mode drops the call.
Instead of hanging up, switch to airplane mode whenever an unknown number calls. After couple weeks, 4 daily spam calls dropped to 1 every few days. And eventually, got to zero.
