"Transvestite" used to be a common word to describe cross-dressers; today the use of that word is discouraged as being derogatory.
Regarding the CBC: in previously providing a forum for TERF Meghan Murphy, CBC lowered the bar under the guise of free speech. That's not a history to be proud of; hence my added concern over their editorial practices.

Providing a forum for "free speech" is the same timid response that taxpayer-supported organizations like the Vancouver Public Library give when providing a forum for Meghan Murphy (who profits from that speech).
Ditto notorious transphobe / far-right troll / pseudo-intellectual Jordan Peterson, who's been provided venues to speak at universities.
The "E" in TERF is "exclusionary:" Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist. Peterson likewise employs populist rhetoric to divide.
