Empires tend to go through the 'invincible' phase prior to decline. The British thought that their empire would last forever, and that it was inevitable. They had the largest empire, measured by total land area or by percent of the world's population. They thought that the Laws of economics didn't matter. They did. The Americans have a 'manifest destiny' that says the same thing. American hegemony may have burned brighter, but is already over. I hope im wrong, but signs of decline are everywhere in America. America felt invincible, and it's hegemony was extended by the petrodollar system, despite losing expensive wars in Vietnam and Afghanistan. That system is now changing, and the character of the hardy people who built America has also declined.

God still has a plan for Americans, and indeed for all people, but empires come and go.
