Good cold, cold morning nostr🥶🥶. Its 20F and the wind is still blowing, although not as hard as yesterday. Thankfully we are past the worst of it, since it should get up to 40 today, i think. Our infrastructure here is not built for subfreezing temps, and we always have to worry about pipes freezing. Our two little home-hatched chicks are still doing well, eating alot and very active. Yesterday we took Lucy to Tractor Supply (we take her there so she can see other humans besides us), and i noticed they had some new chicks for sale, but for $6.99 each! To me, $7 for a tiny chick is kinda high. Last year they were $6. Anyway, just an observation and another reason we're starting to hatch at least a few of our own. Yall have a great thursday, enjoy your coffee, and do your work with a happy heart. #coffeechain #grownostr #homesteading

Good morning to you also. Hope you guys stay warm. Enjoy the chickens and hopefully the pipes are safe and do not freeze. Best wishes and hope you have a nice day.

contemplating the chicken thing... infrastructure first, edjumacation, then implementation.

we got a very small backyard but we should be able to do a pair and cycle a new hen every year os so.

Yes, i think every household should do this. Dont buy those overpriced "chicken coops" from tractor supply. We built our first one from scraps we had.

ive got this flimsy coop from a garage sale a couple years ago.

looks like a Fingerhut product.

I have enough materials to strengthen it up.

it's at least a shell (shape) we can work with.

Looks workable to me, i would use it.

They sell baby chicks at tractor supply?

Yes.

GM Maria! That wood stove is making me jealous. I miss using one! ✨🙏

We are so thankful for ours😊
