some suspect that they are actually our ancestors who reached escape velocity some 10k years ago, there's one book i think it was called "hair of an alien" where the person claimed to have been told that this whole sexual alien abduction thing and phantom pregnancies was actually because their genetics are starting to diverge from ours and they need to keep that from happening (because of things they know are coming in the future)
