I love magnolias, they smell so guddd

Also fun to watch the way bees slowly disassemble the core of the flower. Pistils or stamens, one of those

…which reminds me, one of many reasons flowering plants are cool is that some are male or female, and some are male AND female (which usually comes with different strategies to prevent self-fertilization)

You are very learninged on flowers 😁

Measure your days by how many flowers you smell 🤝

I looked up “magnolia sex” on duckduckgo as i was typing that response to try to find which sex situation magnolias have but it was just porn 😞

Also wikipedia did not tell me. So i still don’t know

Chatgpt to the rescue:

In flowering plants, the conditions you described pertain to the arrangement of male and female reproductive structures. Here are the terms for each scenario, including magnolias:

1. **Dioecious**: When a plant species has individual plants that produce only male flowers or only female flowers. Examples include holly and kiwifruit.

2. **Monoecious**: When a single plant produces both male and female flowers. Examples include corn, squash, and magnolias. (Note: Most magnolias are actually perfect-flowered, but there are a few species with separate male and female flowers on the same plant, fitting the monoecious category.)

3. **Perfect flowers (or hermaphroditic)**: When a single flower has both male and female reproductive structures. Most magnolias, roses, and lilies fall into this category.

4. **Polygamous**: When a single plant has a mix of male, female, and perfect flowers. Examples include some species of maple and avocado.

These terms help in understanding the reproductive strategies and diversity among flowering plants.

Aww so magnolias are perfect flowers 🥹🤙
