Petty bureaucratic tyrants had a rough time when the Roman Empire fell. When Han Dynasty China fell.

Parasites can't survive without a vulnerable host population. Less government = less easy blood to suck.

I'm not suggesting #ubi is something a healthy society should do. But sit down with your government's budget and a list of departments, programs and agencies, and rule a line through each that could be replaced with #ubi.

Its not just the #fiat money saved, its the scorched-earth destruction of organised vested interests.

The bureaucrats will never support #ubi. In any form.

Yes, but if you killed all the departments you wouldn’t need to collect the same amount in taxes and inflate the currency. You could simply shrink the government. There was a time when income tax did not exist.

Agree, but the problems are linked. You have to tackle both ends of the problem, organised vested interests will not cancel themselves

True dat

I don't know where you live, but in Spain the UBI is conceptualized and sold to the masses as an ADDITIONAL handout, never a replacement for State-run "services".

It's the next logic step for the government junkies after decades of addiction and increased tolerance to the shit they shoot themselves. When there are no services left to be provided by the government, they can only take it up a notch and give you money directly.

I think they will support UBI in Australia once the fifteen-minute-city project is complete. I was reading a paper about this recently. Let me find the link....

But the author's "localised" economies will still result in mass death. I dont have a nice solution. We are riding a tiger built of complexity and obfuscation (politically, economically, ecologically) and she's turned her head and now is eyeing us hungrily.

On energy, I'm reading Vaclav Smil's "How The World Really Works", its dense, depressing and entirely worthwhile.
