There is a peculiar aspect to the ethnoreligious nature of Catholicism in America, which becomes doubly peculiar with the introduction of racial outsiders who are Catholic (Mestizos especially) and ethnic outsiders who become Catholic (PopeFanGroyper333 on Twitter, from a Baptist family). I could write a lot about the problems this causes and how it is often subverted, as well as some of the upsides, but typing it on my ohone wouod be dreadful and my thoughts aren't fully collected.
