Outside of population each of those items is effectively finite. Why would they continue to exchange something that is finite for something that is infinite? And not only infinite but also seizable and can be rendered useless should they run afoul of the highly fickle Western leadership. They may try to create their own currency system however Realpolitik will prevent long term cooperation around establishing and issuing a "joint" currency.
