would nostr be successful if everything ran on it even if people didn’t usually know it was there? i’d think so

Yeah it is, but isn’t that more just the servers? I.e if we’re gonna talk in social media terms, isn’t it more like the code running Twitter’s servers and we just use the centralised app, rather than what people are building out on the nostr we know now?

What if there were dozens or hundreds of centralized apps which were all in fierce competition with each other (since they were all on a common protocol) so they couldn’t do self-serving things the way the monopoly apps do today? I think you get a very different result
