Have you heard of Stanislav Grof? He frames the suicide impulse as the psyches attempt to die to the false self. He calls it egocide.

When man is unrooted, discounting times of old because current reality and pseudoscience tell him to, he has no direction, no purpose. We are more than energy and matter, and with the passing of time, your soul will be all that matters.
Contemplating death deeply will bring about a profound understanding of life, which will evaporate the desire for suicide.
