I take my HF ham stuff all the time camping and on elk hunts.

A TrueSdX radio, a small lipo battery, a wire antenna of any type, and a small laptop(11" Chromebook). That gives me full access to voice and data HF. Whole setup without the laptop is maybe a pound? Maybe a touch more? And very compact, all fits inside a mid size go pro case.

For VHF/UHF setups and shorter range, it is much easier. Just a handheld radio, and for data would need some sort of data interface like a digirig, and a computer. Of course VHF range is maybe 4-10 miles on a handheld.

That is accurate with a caveat.

A TrueSdX does actually have USB direct connection via some odd drivers and hacky setups. It isn't great however. It is much better with a digirig or similar in between. So the TrueSdX would be connected to digirig via audio and ptt cables, and the digirig via USB. The truesdx also doesn't have antenna tuner, so the wire antenna needs to be tuned and low swr, or throw a small portable tuner in between.

No idea. It's basically a serial port and sound card in one. My first thought is no, android wouldn't have the drivers.

The easier thing is using a Bluetooth tnc, like mobilelinkd.

I see that WOAD winlink on Android does support digirig using USB and RTS for ptt. So perhaps it is possible in future. For now though, HAMSTR is python and flask based.
