Built in 1961 by the GDR to prevent citizens from fleeing to the West, it divided families, cities, and dreams for 28 years.

On November 9, 1989, millions broke the silence and tore it down stone by stone.

It was the beginning of the end of European communism and the start of a new, united Germany.

Walls don't fall on their own. They are torn down by people when they decide to live without fear.
