Should not be about the money. Relays are dirt cheap to run. They don't even store uploads! Just text. $10-$20 a month is probably good for a relay. Remember, Nostr design pushes all the heavy work that servers are supposed to do on the Nostr Client. This is retarded.

Better yet, with a very small monthly amount for each user (one-time payment, payment for each note, monthly payment, premium features, ads, etc.) we can make the relay profitable and further encourage them to continue improving, join new relays, and create competition
On the mastodon side, they just end up on big centralized instances that way
But in Nostr I can connect to multiple relays, I don't have to be in a single instance

That is the only good thing about Nostr. Put that in to Mastodon and find perfection. Alex is doing that with Ditto basically
I'm not very practical in this part but: what difference would you see as a user between having good relays that comply with moderation and using an instance that filters the content and transmits it to the relays ??? is it something like how ditto works ??? I speak from my ignorance 🙏
Ditto functions like other relays except that it's more for building communities like with competing projects to Nostr. When you go to poster.place, you can see posts my by the members there or use the Global Timeline to see all of Nostr. AS an admin, you can block people , hashtags, or links from entering your instance . Helps out with spam all t he time
