Kazakhstan's president appoints a new prime minister to replace the one he dismissed
==========
Kazakhstan's president, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, appointed his chief of staff, Olzhas Bektenov, as the new prime minister to replace Alikhan Smailov. The Cabinet's resignation was announced in a presidential decree on Monday, without providing a reason. Tokayev had criticized the ministers last year for their failure to address inflation and improve infrastructure. Bektenov, who previously led the country's anti-corruption agency, was nominated by the ruling Amanat party and quickly approved by the national parliament. The president is expected to set priorities for the new Cabinet at a meeting on Wednesday.
