Against my better judgement ima wade in here😖

Assuming we can take the statements of all parties/sovereigns involved at face value (prolly the fatal flaw in this/my debate), I’ll use Triffin’s delimma as a starting point and assume trump’s real motivation is rebuilding America’s manufacturing base.

Imo: The NAFTA agreement (GHW Bush’s and world globalist’s baby but ushered in primarily during the Clinton administration…ever wonder why they were so chummy?) was the final nail in the coffin of American manufacturing. It was a short sided political/corporate way to keep our domestic prices low (export our inflation to countries with cheaper labor…see Alex Gladstein’s stuff).

Tariffs are an effective way to incentivize an increase in domestic manufacturing but also are easily used to weaponize the consumption of a large economy (unless there is a significant increase in domestic productivity weaponized tariffs are short sided imo).

Trump’s tariffs in theory can improve the balance of our (the US’s) consumption vs production. The brics+ nations (mostly producers with net trade surplus) are betting that we can’t significantly improve the balance of our consumption and production. If the brics nations are correct there will be a very “hard landing” for our economy. Either way our (the US’s standard of highly financialized living will have to decrease)….Ima hedge my bets with some hard assets🤔

With re to wind and solar, it seems they have so far been very low yield moonshot fiat plans (requiring significant fiat/gov subsidies). Previous new technologies (ie railroads, Telecommunications, automobile, fossil fuel and aeronautical industries) were all able to bootstrap themselves mostly through the money of private entrepreneurs (why? they were great ideas).

In my opinion renewable energy that is worthwhile should be able to do the same and not be heavily subsidized with inefficient fiat/govt subsidies and heavily propagandized. These misaligned incentives for zombie technologies just prolongs finding the alternative technologies that work.

IMO the only connection between green energy and tariffs is that the countries that have subsidized green energy (ie Paris climate accord) are the most insolvent countries with the largest trade deficits and are the most in need of “onshoring” their manufacturing 🤷🏽‍♂️

But I an idgit from the ⭕️ and wtf do I know.

Also I didn’t proof read this tldr MF so
