It's always political. Expect more people to come out and want sympathy from people in a coordinated effort to try win over the NPCs because they can only suppress what they did for so long.
This information has been public for a few years now, seems most still need it to come from a legacy outlet for them to accept it as true. The priests are giving their sermon, and they graciously accept and forgive.
