Been thinking about the convergence of Bitcoin and AI. The Bitcoin network is not what you would call “intelligent” in that it performs the straightforward tasks of an entry-level accountant. The most interesting thing is how Its monumental impact on the global monetary system isn't a result of complex cognitive abilities; the real value lies in its ability to operate independently, free from human interference.

The relevance to AI is we have a textbook example of a thriving system that is serving basic human needs, all while operating completely outside the boundaries of our control. It’s a peaceful coexistence, which ironically was designed to protect ourselves from each other.

People talk a lot about the promises and/or threats of generalized intelligence, we should also remember to spend equal time discussing the role of autonomy and neutrality in the design of our AI systems.
