Likes have their own utility, definitely less than a zap but it’s not zero.
I’m all for clients making them optional - as in you could turn reactions on or off. Think that’s a good compromise for zap maxis who emphasise that signal.
But I’m happy leaving a Shaka on random notes in global, it lets other users know they’re being seen which is important when the discovery mechanisms on nostr are so early.
Good point i haven’t been doing the global thing in a while, just living in the main feed and notifications.
I don’t mean to shame likers with this type of note either, more just expressing my own thoughts that led to zap maxihood
For me personally the only argument against OnlyZaps™️ is it takes one more tap to send, a swipe back over to damus from zeus, and an extra second or two altogether. But i know the recipient will appreciate it so it’s worth it

Zaps are proof of work
Hopefully it will evolve as zaps become more seamless. It does make the ‘like’ button redundant, so would it not make sense for clients to start just removing likes and pushing zaps as the replacement?

Likes and zaps have a different semantic, imho.
A 🤙 is more of a brief acknowledgment, something I (sometimes loosely) agree with or where I want to signal that it caught my attention. ⚡️ on the other hand is signaling support for the content posted. Getting value out of it. Both have their use, but 🤙 would be even more useful if it defaulted to 1 sat and payment was 100% seamlessly integrated.

Yes and no. I’d still would want the clear distinction between likes and zaps. Because - to me at least - they’re semantically different. But of course 1 sat zaps could be (and maybe is) the equivalent of a 🤙
