I figured out why I had 45 relays on my profile. Snort is adding them. I removed 20 of them on Astral. I went into Snort and all of them were back. I removed them on Snort, but they just keep reappearing. I checked Astral and they were all back. I'm not sure if that's a bug? I'll just stay away from Snort for now.

So the dual client theory had merit. 🤓

Yep!

Your bandwidth has stopped wheezing ser.

I already bought an unlimited data plan 😂 I'll need it this weekend when we travel.

Running Bandwidth…

In my experience they’ll still threaten to throttle you. 👀

Become, unthrottleable

✊🏼

Damn. Last month I used 1.9TB of data at home. I am at 1.1 TB right now and it's only January 11th.

jesussss christ 😱what a bump

I need to trim more relays 😂

Would be nice if the client informed us of network consumption per relay 🤔

That would be a nice data point to have for sure.

Woah, you got 24 😆🫡 I’ll stick to 11. Been good. Any reason why you got so many? Are you getting some events that are “special” or something

Just two. I have my own private one and then I have one for RSS feeds.

Interesting. Nostr RSS feeds, another lesson for later 👍

Time to build a relay ranker so people can see what relays they would like to join. What are some metrics that would be important - uptime; date it started; number of accounts connected; number of notes ingested per day: what else??

Data company is opening a case. 🧐

🚩 like a power company and a home grow operation. 😂

Btw. I read 24 relays now. 👌🏻

Is it bad to have too many relays?

It hurts performance and sucks mobile data. I'd like to get rid of more and stay under 20 if I can.

That makes sense for mobile. Right now I have much fewer than 20, on a desktop so performance isn't a problem, but I notice my propagation can be slow.

I’ve seen profiles flip-flop like that across other clients.

Updating relays is kinda tricky for clients to get right.

When you remove relays, a good client should first write to the profile with the full set of removals to all removed relays.

When a client reads profiles, it should make sure it caches the created-at timestamp and always let newest win.

Any latencies to get latest profile will also make your experience wonky.

So in that case Snort isn‘t relyable anymore?

That's wild! I finally pruned from 38 to 13 and I like it!

Noticed on iris.io (was there checking it out) I was only connected to 5 and when I clicked 'Connect' on others it didn't work

#[2]

I've been using 3 relays the last few days and 💯

Was happening to me today when I was trying to set up #[2]

Just kept readding relays that weren't needed.

Did you click on the ‘save’ button under the relays list on Snort? That caused the issue for me. After removing the extra relays on Damus, I haven’t seen it happening again (and I used Snort afterwards)

Yeah I did, I think I just turned them all off though and removed them in astral.

I found that when I used more-speech on the desktop it would over write my profile. More-speech doesn’t support NIP-5 so it would jack up my profile. I can move pretty seamlessly between Damus and Astral.

Clients should definitely not be trying to fetch everything from all relays all the time.

Agreed here. I think clients should give you a list of “discovered “ relays you may be interested in, but that’s it. Then the user can add any they are interested in.

Paging #[2] looks like it’s not just me seeing this bug
