Centralized restrictions are never used purely for good. It may start out that way, but the longer such institutions exist, the more corrupt they get, until they get reformed, and the cycle repeats.
Decentralized institutions generally improve over time as the markets punish the bad.

Good questions. Yes, worldwide the Christian church continues to grow despite declines in some areas of the world. The Bible is verifiable, there is no piece of historical literature with more early manuscript support, nothing else is even close. The catholic church is one part of the Christian church, I happen to attend an independent church. The majority of Christians consider the Bible the source code and any human organization of community is accountable to the Bible more than local leadership. Any church or demonization could disappear tomorrow and nothing changes for all other Christians.
