It's between #Fedora and #Ubuntu re: converting my MS #surface pro 4 into a #Linux. I know everyone has VERY SPECIFIC PREFERENCES re: distros, & many #programming experts will reply "neither" BUT IF YOU COULD ONLY CHOOSE FROM THOSE TWO, which one? #cybersecurity #tech #coding #opensource #technology

Ubuntu. And I have a Surface as my only portable computer (basically a laptop).

The hardware support for has been great on Debian and since Ubuntu is just Debian with a bunch of stuff bolted on, I expect it'll go well over there as well.

Id have to say Fedora. I don't like ubuntu at all. Id you want deb packages, just use Debian. Ubuntu is creeping its way to evil. Fedora has not given me a bad taste as ubuntu has.

Linux Mint Debian Edition

Ubuntu is bloated up with snaps. Ugh

Fedora. Why not Ubuntu- first Ubuntu is bloated and gets slow. Second, the snaps issue, its not FOSS but they force it on you and that irritates the hell out of me. Only bonus is the large repository. From a personal perspective, I've seen Ubuntu just get to the point of non usability after a certain point of upgrades. Why Fedora- Fedora works well, has a semi rolling release so easier to keep up to date. If you are new to Linux, you just have to follow the installation wiki to make sure you add the non free drivers. More work on the front end but better long term. I know there is a lot of back and forth on this one but many feel the security is better with Fedora as well. Since Ubuntu is in bed with Amazon, I'd guess privacy is better as well, even if you turn off the ability for them to collect data.
